What we believe

The Campus Chapel is a Christian community that celebrates the Christian faith. The Christian faith begins with a commitment to the triune God — Father, Son, and Spirit — who is the Creator and Redeemer of all that is.

We believe that God is the Creator of this world and that God sustains and governs the world through God’s providence. Creation is a gift of God’s grace by which God calls into being creatures with whom God lives in loving relationship. Humans are appointed by God to serve as caretakers of the creation, treasuring the world as God treasures it.

Human sinfulness has distorted God’s intentions. This distortion undermines our efforts to restore wholeness to ourselves and the world. Left to ourselves, all our efforts remain plagued by sin and death. But God sent his Son to defeat sin and death through his death and resurrection. Through Jesus Christ, then, we have forgiveness and hope of new life.

We believe that the Holy Spirit continues the work of Christ’s restoration by creating a people devoted to following Christ. The Spirit renews our lives each day and works in our hearts and minds so that we may become more fully what God intended us to be: people who live lives that are God-glorifying.

At the Campus Chapel we understand that, as Christians, we are called to work for the betterment of this world that God created and is working to redeem. We believe it’s important to remain connected to and grounded in the real world — a world very much in need of the healing presence of the gospel. This is why we encourage people to get involved in their local communities and in the worldwide community to work for justice and to bring peace.
